They were only presented in February, and have now already been used in a first, very creative application: the new transparent displays EYE-TOLED-5500 by eyevis. Within the framework of the Geneva Motor Show 2016, they were used to present the new IONIQ by Hyundai, the first passenger car with three powertrain options. The highlight of the interactive presentation was a visualisation on several levels one behind the other, with the transparent OLED displays alternating with layers of the actual acrylic car model.
Creative, new form of presentation
The key element of the showcase presentation was a transparent acrylic car model, cut lengthways into three parts. The individual parts were mounted on rails and could thus be moved independently from each other from the right to the left within one plane. The three parts could be moved together to display the car as a whole or drawn apart to symbolise the three different powertrain options.
There was a display layer behind each of the three individual parts of the car, the first two of which were transparent, so that the viewer was able to see all the way to the background layer. These two layers were implemented with four EYE-TOLED-5500 whereas the background layer consisted of two non-transparent EYE-LCD-5500 assembled side by side, both with a high luminance of 700 cd/m².
For the viewers, these technical details were not visible: they purely perceived the profound spatial depth of the presentation, which even allowed for a realistic, three-dimensional, almost hologram-like display and striking visual effects.
The explanations and visualisations of the individual car powertrain models moved synchronously with the respective parts of the car model.
INNOCEAN, in-house agency of Hyundai and Kia
The responsibility for this thought-through presentation lies with the agency HERREN DER SCHÖPFUNG under the leadership of the lead agency INNOCEAN Worldwide Europe. Markus Schuhmacher of HERREN DER SCHÖPFUNG has already had good experiences with eyevis products in the past, which made the choice of the display a no-brainer: “This new display technology is suitable in several ways to present new technical information,” explains Schuhmacher and continues: “For this reason, we specifically selected eyevis’ EYE-TOLED-5500 for the presentation of the new IONIQ by Hyundai. Thus we had two global premieres at the same time!”
Brilliantly self-luminous or transparent
The EYE-TOLED-5500 is a large, transparent display made out of organic LEDs with a screen diagonal of 55 inches. All black image content is displayed transparent, while the active self-luminous image points put forward very brilliant colours. As a display superimposed above or in front of products and exhibits, the EYE-TOLED-5500 creates a unique multi-layer-impression: fixed and moving images are superimposed on real objects, which gives rise to an impressive new presentation format. This innovative display type can also be integrated in the centre of a room between object and viewer and draws the attention of the viewer back and forth between the background and the display.
EYE-TOLED-5500 also convinces in terms of its specs, with its outstanding image quality in Full HD resolution, high contrast, extremely short response time and radiant colours even from an extreme viewing angle up to 178° from both sides. It is already very variable in its standard version and can be used upright or horizontal, perpendicular to the wall integration or mounting, or for example as a countertop installation tilted by up to 15 degrees. Moreover eyevis implements custom-made versions of the EYE-TOLED-5500, which are adjusted precisely to the presentation concept of the client. “The focus is always on the creative presentation, which our EYE-TOLED-5500 displays will eventually implement perfectly,” explains Reiner Lutz, who as an eyevis sales representative has supervised this first application of the new TOLED displays.
